Nexus is committed to integrating sustainable thinking into every stage of our work – from early advice through to delivery on site – so that projects make sense for both the planet and the pocket.
1. Our Commitment
-
We prioritise practical, low‑carbon and resource‑efficient solutions in all consultancy and project support services, helping clients reduce environmental impacts without compromising quality or cost certainty.
-
We comply with all applicable UK environmental legislation and planning requirements relevant to construction and the built environment, and we review this policy at least annually or when regulations change.
-
We promote straightforward, no‑jargon communication so clients understand the sustainability implications of design, materials, and construction methods and can make informed choices.
2. Environmental Principles
-
We seek to minimise carbon emissions associated with the projects we support by encouraging energy‑efficient design, fabric‑first approaches, and low‑carbon technologies where feasible.
-
We promote responsible material selection, favouring options with lower embodied carbon, durable performance, and opportunities for reuse or recycling over the building’s life cycle.
-
We encourage efficient use of resources on projects, including water efficiency, reduced waste generation, and improved segregation and recycling of construction and demolition waste.
-
We support clients and contractors in considering whole‑life impacts, including operational energy use and end‑of‑life strategies where proportionate to project scale.
3. Healthy Buildings and Communities
-
We promote measures that contribute to healthier indoor environments, including good ventilation, thermal comfort, daylight, and the use of low‑emission materials where appropriate.
-
We encourage designs and construction practices that respect local communities, aim to minimise nuisance (such as noise, dust, and traffic), and enhance the long‑term social value of built assets.
-
We work with clients to highlight opportunities for buildings and infrastructure to support more sustainable patterns of use, such as active travel, public transport, and flexible working where relevant to the project brief.
4. Working With Clients, Partners and Supply Chain
-
We collaborate with main contractors, subcontractors and professional teams that demonstrate a responsible approach to environmental management and are willing to improve performance over time.
-
We encourage project teams to adopt proportionate sustainability targets and KPIs (for example energy use, waste diversion from landfill, or recycled content) and to monitor these throughout delivery where practical.
-
We support clients in understanding emerging UK sustainability expectations in planning, procurement and reporting, helping them prepare for tighter standards and greater transparency across the supply chain.
5. Our Own Operations and Continuous Improvement
-
We aim to run Nexus as a low‑impact business by reducing unnecessary travel, favouring remote collaboration where appropriate, and choosing energy‑efficient office practices and suppliers.
-
We provide our team with guidance and training on sustainable construction trends, regulation changes, and best practice so that sustainability remains embedded in our advice and day‑to‑day decisions.
-
We set internal objectives to improve our environmental performance, review progress regularly, and update this policy to reflect new knowledge, client expectations and regulatory developments.
Policy ownership and review
This Sustainability Policy is owned by the Nexus leadership team, applies to all services delivered under the Nexus brand, and will be reviewed at least once every 12 months, or sooner if there are significant changes in UK construction or sustainability regulations.
